Sustainability

At Hima Cement, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. As a leader in the building materials industry, we recognize the responsibility we carry in ensuring that our operations not only meet the needs of today but also safeguard the environment and communities for future generations. We want to help transform the way our industry works and encourage the whole construction sector to play its full part in addressing our planet’s biggest issues. Our sustainability commitments are covered in these four pillars.

Climate and Energy

We are committed to decarbonizing our business through spearheading low-carbon operations and on producing low carbon products and solutions. This is mainly through use of alternative fuels and optimization of clinker in our final products and solutions.

Circular Economy

We promote circularity by recycling and reusing materials, thereby minimizing the consumption of natural resources. Hima Cement provides sustainable waste management solutions to industries, municipalities and the agriculture sector. Through co-processing, we convert waste from other industries to energy in our production process. We reuse thousands of tonnes of waste for energy and raw materials.

Nature

We operate in delicate ecosystems that provide humans and animals with important resources such as freshwater, food, raw materials and energy. We actively foster a nature-positive world through our biodiversity initiatives and water stewardship practices; through transformative quarry rehabilitation plans and lowering our water intensity during cement production.

People

Our people and communities are at the heart of everything we do. We aim to contribute to sustainable development in our host communities through social and economic efforts, to create a better future through and beyond the bounds of our core business. Respect for human rights is fundamental to our ability to do business and we regularly interact with stakeholders at all levels to preserve our standing as good members of our communities.
