Karuma Hydroelectric Power Station, is a significant infrastructure project in Uganda which was aimed at increasing the country's electricity generation capacity. The dam is located on the Nile River and spans the districts of Kiryandongo and Oyam in northern Uganda.
The project was crucial for supporting Uganda’s economic development by providing reliable and affordable electricity, which is essential for industrialization, commercial activities, and improved living standards.
Construction of the dam began in 2013 and involved extensive civil engineering work, including the building of the dam structure, power station, and associated infrastructure.
The project was executed by Sinohydro, a Chinese construction and engineering company which partnered with Hima Cement to supply the cement needs for the project.
